Emma Peterson powers Geneva past Montini to first sectional championship since 2016 — Schaumburg Schools news

Geneva played with a bitter taste in its mouth this fall. After coming up short in a three-setter against Nazareth Academy in the sectional finals last year, the Vikings wanted nothing more than another shot at the championship — and to claim a sectional title they’d been starved of for nearly a decade.“We haven’t stopped thinking about that game,” Emma Peterson said.So when they got their opportunity on Thursday night in Wheaton, they made sure to capitalize this time around.Geneva swept Montini, 25-23, 25-18, in the Class 3A St. Francis Sectional championship match to claim the program’s first sectional title since 2016.“Coming into the night, giving it our all, and knowing that our season can be on the line I think really pushed us to want to win this game,” Peterson said.Peterson, an outside hitter committed to Dayton, played some truly inspired volleyball for Geneva, smashing 16 kills against Broncos. Ten of those came in the second set, helping the Vikings take a commanding lead
